Description
Sikaflex 295 UV - White - 10oz Tube with Nozzle
Exterior sealant and direct glazing adhesive for organic glass in Marine applications. Sikaflex-295 UV is a 1-component polyurethane adhesive of paste-like consistency that cures on exposure to atmospheric moisture. It is suitable for interior and exterior sealing applications and to bond organic glass in the Marine business. Sikaflex-295 UV meets the requirements set out by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Features:
- Excellent application properties
- Resistant to aging and weathering
- Suitable for organic glasses
Areas of Application
Sikaflex-295 UV has been specially developed for the marine industry, where it is used to bond and seal plastic glazing materials in boats and ships. Because of its excellent weatherability this product can also be used to seal joints in exposed areas. Suitable substrates are aluminum (bright or anodized), GRP (polyester resin), stainless steel, timber, 2-component coatings, and plastic glazing materials (PC, PMMA). Seek manufacturers advice and perform tests on original substrates before using Sikaflex-295 UV on materials prone to stress cracking. This product is suitable for experienced professional users only. Tests with actual substrates and conditions have to be performed to ensure adhesion and material compatibility.
Product Benefits:
- Excellent application properties
- Resistant to aging and weathering
- Suitable for organic glasses
- Approved for the OEM market
- Wheelmark approved
Surface Preparation:
Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, dust, and contaminants. Surface treatment depends on the specific nature of the substrates and is crucial for a long-lasting bond. Suggestions for surface preparation may be found on the current edition of the appropriate Sika Pre-treatment Chart. Consider that these suggestions are based on experience and have in any case to be verified by tests on original substrates.
Application:
Sikaflex-295 UV can be processed between 10 C and 35 C (climate and product) but changes in reactivity and application properties have to be considered. The optimum temperature for substrate and sealant is between 15 C and 25 C.
Consider that the viscosity will increase at low temperatures. For easy application, condition the adhesive at ambient temperature prior to use. To ensure a uniform thickness of the bonding it is recommended to apply the adhesive in form of a triangular bead.
Tooling Finishing
Tooling and finishing must be carried out within the skin time of the product. It is recommended to use Sika Tooling Agent N. Other finishing agents must be tested for suitability and compatibility prior to the use.
Removal
Uncured Sikaflex-295 UV can be removed from tools and equipment with Sika Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. Once cured, the material can only be removed mechanically. Hands and exposed skin have to be washed immediately using Sika Cleaner-350H cleaning towels or a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water. Do not use solvents on the skin.
Overpainting
Sikaflex-295 UV can be painted prior to and after the formation of the skin. If the painting process takes place after the sealant has built a skin, adhesion could be improved by treating the joint surface with Sika Aktivator-100 or Sika Aktivator-205 prior to the painting process. If the paint requires a baking process (> 80 C), the best performance is achieved by allowing the sealant to fully cure first. All paints have to be tested by carrying preliminary trials under manufacturing conditions. The elasticity of paints is usually lower than that of sealants. This could lead to cracking of the paint in the joint area.
The Sika Sikaflex 295 UV is a premium white, 10-ounce tube of exterior sealant and direct glazing adhesive designed specifically for marine applications. This one-component polyurethane adhesive has a paste-like consistency that cures on exposure to atmospheric moisture, ensuring a durable bond suitable for both interior and exterior sealing tasks. Its formulation meets the strict standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), making it a trusted choice for professional marine use. Sikaflex 295 UV is ideal for bonding organic glass in boats, ships, and exposed marine structures, providing excellent weather resistance and long-lasting performance.
Its excellent application properties allow for smooth, precise application, and it remains resistant to aging and weathering, maintaining its sealing and bonding capabilities over time. This product is compatible with a range of substrates including aluminum (both bright and anodized), fiberglass-reinforced plastic (GRP), stainless steel, timber, 2-component coatings, and plastic glazing materials such as polycarbonate and acrylic (PMMA). Proper surface preparation—clean, dry, and free from grease or contaminants—is essential for optimal adhesion. Surface treatment may vary based on substrate type and should be verified with manufacturer recommendations and testing.
Sikaflex 295 UV is processed best within ambient temperatures of 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F), with considerations for viscosity changes at lower temperatures. To ensure ease of application and uniform bonding, it is recommended to condition the adhesive at room temperature before use and to apply it in a triangular bead for consistent coverage. Tooling and finishing should be completed within the skin time, ideally using Sika Tooling Agent N for best results. Cured material can only be removed mechanically, while uncured sealant can be cleaned with Sika Remover-208 or similar solvents. Hands and skin should be cleaned immediately with Sika Cleaner-350H or industrial hand cleaners—solvents should not be used directly on skin.
Paintability is another key feature of Sikaflex 295 UV, allowing it to be painted before or after curing. For best adhesion and finish, surface treatments like Sika Aktivator-100 or -205 are recommended prior to painting. If baking paints at high temperatures, it is best to allow the sealant to fully cure beforehand to prevent cracking. Always conduct preliminary tests with your specific paints and substrates to ensure compatibility. Overall, Sikaflex 295 UV offers a reliable, weather-resistant sealing solution ideal for marine environments, approved for OEM markets and wheelmark certified, ensuring quality and compliance for professional users.
