Description
Argodiode Battery Isolator 80-2AC - 2 Batteries - 80A
Argodiode Battery Isolators allow simultaneous charging of two or more batteries from one alternator, without connecting the batteries. Discharging the accessory battery for example will not result in also discharging the starter battery. Low voltage drop due to the use of high-efficiency Schottky diodes.
The Argo Battery Isolators feature a low voltage drop thanks to the use of Schottky diodes: at low current, the voltage drop is approximately 0,3 V, and at the rated output of approximately 0,45 V. All models are fitted with a compensation diode that can be used to slightly increase the output voltage of the alternator. This compensates for the voltage drop over the diodes in the isolator.
Simply inserting the isolator in the cabling between the alternator and the batteries will slightly reduce charge voltage. The result can be that batteries are not charged to the full 100% and age prematurely.
Alternator energize input
Some alternators need DC voltage on the B+ output to start charging. Obviously, DC will be present when the alternator is directly connected to a battery. Inserting a Diode or FET splitter will however prevent any return voltage/current from the batteries to the B+, and the alternator will not start. The new AC diode isolators feature a special current limited energize input that will power the B+ when the engine run/stop switch is closed.

It allows simultaneous charging of two batteries from a single alternator while ensuring that discharging one battery does not affect the other, maintaining reliable power distribution. Featuring high-efficiency Schottky diodes, this isolator minimizes voltage drop—approximately 0.3 V at low current and around 0.45 V at rated output—ensuring batteries are charged effectively without significant power loss. All models include a compensation diode that can slightly boost the alternator's output voltage, counteracting voltage drops across the diodes and optimizing charging performance. Installing this isolator between the alternator and the batteries is straightforward and enhances system reliability by preventing backflow and ensuring each battery receives appropriate charge levels. It is particularly suitable for applications where maintaining battery health and ensuring consistent power supply are critical. The Victron Argodiode 80-2AC features a dedicated energize input with a current-limited design, which enables the alternator to start charging even when the engine's run/stop switch is engaged, without risking reverse current flow. This feature simplifies system integration and enhances operational safety. Crafted by Victron Energy, this isolator is built for durability and consistent performance, making it an essential component for complex battery management systems that require reliable, high-current switching with minimal voltage loss.
