Description

Galvonic Isolator VDI-32A 32A Max Waterproof (Potted)

The galvanic isolator prevents electrolytic corrosion. It blocks low voltage DC currents that enter your boat via the shore power earth wire. These currents can cause corrosion to the boats underwater metals, like the hull, propeller, shaft and so on.
The galvanic isolator consists internally of two diodes which are connected in anti-parallel fashion. When they are connected in this way, the diodes allow current in both directions but only above a certain threshold voltage. The voltage at which diodes conduct is about 1.4 Vdc.

The isolator is installed directly behind your boats 120V - 230V connection. The forward voltage from the galvanic isolator is higher than the potential difference between metals. As a result, this voltage will not allow conduction and as such, the galvanic isolator will prevent any electrolytic current. However, if there is a (higher) error voltage in the AC circuit, the diodes will allow current through and the residual-current device will break the circuit.

Terminal posts are 6mm (1.4)

The Victron Energy VDI-32A galvanic isolator is designed to protect your boat’s underwater metals from electrolytic corrosion. By preventing low voltage DC currents from entering your vessel via the shore power earth wire, it helps maintain the integrity of critical components such as the hull, propeller, and shaft. This isolator features internally connected diodes arranged in an anti-parallel configuration, allowing current flow in both directions only above a threshold of approximately 1.4 volts DC. This design ensures that normal voltage differences do not cause conduction, effectively blocking corrosive currents while allowing safety features to operate during higher error voltages.
The isolator is installed directly behind your boat’s 120V or 230V connection, ensuring protection at the power entry point. Its forward voltage exceeds typical potential differences between metals, providing reliable isolation under normal conditions. If an elevated error voltage occurs in the AC circuit, the diodes permit current flow, triggering the residual-current device to disconnect power and safeguard your vessel. The device features 6mm terminal posts for secure wiring connections and is built with a waterproof, potted enclosure suitable for marine environments. Please note that this product is not ABYC A-28 approved, and for any returns, repairs, or support, contact your dealer for assistance.
For detailed installation instructions and additional information, refer to the official owner’s manual available at this link. Proper installation of the Victron Energy VDI-32A galvanic isolator ensures ongoing protection against electrolytic corrosion, extending the lifespan of your vessel’s underwater metals and maintaining optimal vessel performance over time.
