Description
Galvanic Isolator VDI-64A 64A Max Waterproof (Potted)
The galvanic isolator prevents electrolytic corrosion. It blocks low voltage DC currents that enter your boat via the shore power earth wire. These currents can cause corrosion to the boats underwater metals, like the hull, propeller, shaft and so on.
The galvanic isolator consists internally of two diodes which are connected in anti-parallel fashion. When they are connected in this way, the diodes allow current in both directions but only above a certain threshold voltage. The voltage at which diodes conduct is about 1.4 Vdc.
The isolator is installed directly behind your boats 120V - 230V connection. The forward voltage from the galvanic isolator is higher than the potential difference between metals. As a result, this voltage will not allow conduction and as such, the galvanic isolator will prevent any electrolytic current. However, if there is a (higher) error voltage in the AC circuit, the diodes will allow current through and the residual-current device will break the circuit.
Terminal posts are 6MM (1/4)

Please contact your dealer for any returns, repairs or support issues related to this product. The Victron Energy VDI-64A galvanic isolator is designed to protect your boat from electrolytic corrosion caused by stray currents entering via shore power connections. This high-quality device effectively blocks low voltage DC currents that can damage underwater metals such as the hull, propeller, and shaft, enhancing the longevity and safety of your vessel. Its waterproof, potted construction ensures durability in marine environments, maintaining reliable operation even in harsh conditions.
Internally, the isolator features two diodes connected in anti-parallel fashion, allowing current flow in both directions only above a threshold voltage of approximately 1.4 volts DC. This configuration prevents unwanted current from entering your boat’s electrical system while permitting normal operation. Installed directly behind your boat’s 120V or 230V power connection, the galvanic isolator's forward voltage exceeds the potential difference between metals, ensuring electrolytic currents are effectively blocked. In case of an error voltage in the AC circuit, the diodes enable the residual-current device to break the circuit, providing an additional layer of safety.
The device includes terminal posts with 6mm (1/4 inch) connection points for straightforward installation. Please note that this isolator is not ABYC A-28 approved, so consult your dealer for support, repairs, or return procedures. For detailed installation and maintenance instructions, refer to the owner’s manual available online. The Victron Energy VDI-64A galvanic isolator is an essential component for boat owners seeking reliable protection against corrosion and electrical faults, ensuring safe and efficient marine operations.
