Description
Argodiode Battery Isolator 180-3AC - 3 Batteries - 180A
Argodiode Battery Isolators allow simultaneous charging of two or more batteries from one alternator, without connecting the batteries. Discharging the accessory battery for example will not result in also discharging the starter battery. Low voltage drop due to the use of high-efficiency Schottky diodes.
The Argo Battery Isolators feature a low voltage drop thanks to the use of Schottky diodes: at low current, the voltage drop is approximately 0,3 V, and at the rated output of approximately 0,45 V. All models are fitted with a compensation diode that can be used to slightly increase the output voltage of the alternator. This compensates for the voltage drop over the diodes in the isolator.
Simply inserting the isolator in the cabling between the alternator and the batteries will slightly reduce charge voltage. The result can be that batteries are not charged to the full 100% and age prematurely.
Alternator energize input
Some alternators need DC voltage on the B+ output to start charging. Obviously, DC will be present when the alternator is directly connected to a battery. Inserting a Diode or FET splitter will however prevent any return voltage/current from the batteries to the B+, and the alternator will not start. The new AC diode isolators feature a special current limited energize input that will power the B+ when the engine run/stop switch is closed.

This isolator allows for the safe and simultaneous charging of up to three batteries while preventing any discharge from accessory batteries from affecting the starter battery. Its high-efficiency Schottky diodes ensure minimal voltage drop, typically around 0.3 volts at low current and approximately 0.45 volts at rated output, maximizing charging efficiency and battery lifespan.
The isolator includes a compensation diode that can slightly increase the alternator's output voltage, offsetting voltage drops across the diodes to ensure batteries receive a full charge. Installation involves inserting the device between the alternator and the batteries, which may slightly reduce the charge voltage, but it significantly improves battery management and longevity.
The Victron Argodiode features a specialized energize input that ensures proper operation with alternators requiring a DC voltage on the B+ output to start charging. This feature prevents reverse current flow from batteries, ensuring reliable alternator startup in various vehicle configurations. Designed for robust performance, this isolator is ideal for complex battery systems in trucks, RVs, and marine applications, providing peace of mind through efficient and safe battery management.
As a high-quality product from Victron Energy, the Argodiode 180-3AC helps maintain the health of your battery system, supporting reliable power distribution and extending battery life in demanding environments. Its compact design and easy installation make it suitable for a wide range of vehicle and off-grid applications, ensuring optimal performance and durability over time.
